A grand-scale war strategy game based on J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy. Created in 2012, the board game "War of the Ring" holds high ratings on the BoardGameGeek website: it currently ranks first among war games, fourth among thematic games, and ninth overall in the global ranking of the best games in the world.
War of the Ring is an asymmetrical military strategy game where one player controls the dark forces of Mordor, while the other commands the united armies of men, elves, dwarves, and the Fellowship of the Ring, who also strive to reach Mount Doom.
Epic War Strategy
Each game round consists of several phases, during which players manage their named characters and armies. The gameplay is intricately intertwined with the narrative of the books. For example, the elven armies cannot join the forces of the Free Peoples until the Battle of Helm's Deep has occurred, and Saruman will not enter the game until it's time for him to reveal himself and lead the orcs of the White Hand.
Actions are performed by rolling dice. Depending on the results, players can recruit new troops, move on the board, play event cards, or attack the opponent's forces. It should be noted that each set of dice has its own "wild card" face, allowing players to perform unique actions.
Each side wins through entirely different conditions. The Shadow triumphs if the One Ring track reaches 12, while the Free Peoples win when the Fellowship of the Ring destroys the One Ring.
War of the Ring is a fantastic strategy game that will appeal to all fans of Tolkien's works and lovers of military strategies.
