Being a witch means wielding powerful magical ingredients, but a witch can only store so many before everything blows up in her face. Choose your recipes wisely to clear your workbench and overwhelm others with ingredients. After all, the player who first fills an opponent’s cauldron with enough ingredients wins!
In this game, we play as witches gathered for a sabbath, brewing their potions. The best witch will be the one who not only crafts the finest potions but also sabotages her rivals’ cauldrons.
About the Board Game "Whirling Witchcraft"
This is a fast and light family-friendly competitive board game where players brew potions and pile ingredients into cauldrons. Throughout the game, potion recipes and cauldrons pass around the circle, so you’ll need to keep an eye on your fellow magical practitioners. In this game, a good potion is one you’ve ruined for someone else.
How to Play "Whirling Witchcraft"?
Each player gets a personal board where witches store their ingredients (colored cubes). However, the number of each color is limited. If you’re forced to take more cubes from a cauldron than your board allows, the player who passed you that cauldron earns victory points for each excess cube. The first to reach 5 points wins.
At the end of each round, cauldrons with brewed potions move to the player on your right, while recipe cards shift to the left. But how do you load a cauldron with enough cubes to score points? That’s where recipe cards come in!
At the round’s start, each player has four recipe cards. Everyone places one card face-up in front of themselves, then all flip them simultaneously and start brewing. The top of the card lists required ingredients, while the bottom shows the result. You take the needed components from your board and place the output into the cauldron.
Afterward, the witches exchange:
- Cauldrons pass to the player on the right.
- Three recipe cards go to the player on the left.
At the start of the next round, each player draws one new recipe card and takes ingredients from their cauldron onto their board (if they fit). As in the first round, you choose one recipe from your hand to play. Recipe cards from previous rounds stay on the table and accumulate, letting you brew multiple potions at once to overload an opponent’s board and score victory points.
That’s how sessions of "Whirling Witchcraft" unfold.
Arcana
Recipe cards occasionally feature arcana symbols. There are three types of arcana, tracked by tokens on special arcana cards. Each time you play a recipe with an arcana symbol, the token advances one space.
At even spaces (2, 4, and 6), arcana activate and trigger their effects, allowing you to:
- Add an ingredient from the general supply to your cauldron.
- Remove or gain ingredients from your board.
Witches
For your first game, everyone is assigned the same witch character. But for later sessions, the game’s creator included twelve asymmetrical witches, each with unique abilities, starting ingredients, and an arcana!

We recommend watching the video rules in the “Video” section and, if desired, reviewing the detailed PDF rules in the “Files” section.
One Last Note
Board games never cease to amaze Gallu the Rooster. Though it might seem like familiar mechanics and the popular witch theme dominate, the creators of "Whirling Witchcraft" managed to add something fresh. It starts subtle, but soon you realize this detail transforms the gameplay, making it truly exceptional.
