Kingdomino is a family abstract tile-placement game. It debuted in 2016, crafted by the renowned designer Bruno Cathala, famous for titles like 7 Wonders: Duel, Five Tribes, and Cyclades. Ranked in the top 100 family board games on BoardGameGeek, it boasts numerous nominations and wins, including “Game of the Year” at the «Spiel des Jahres» awards.
About the Board Game Kingdomino
You’ll scout new lands and expand your kingdom’s borders, exploring wheat fields, rivers, and mountains. But don’t dawdle—others are vying for these territories too...
A Quick Look at the Rules
The rules are so simple and intuitive they fit on three illustrated pages. The goal is to build a 5x5 kingdom. You can attach any landscape tile to your starting tile, but subsequent tiles must match terrains—rivers to rivers, fields to fields, and so on. If a tile can’t connect (mismatched landscapes) or exceeds the 5x5 grid, it’s discarded.
Once everyone builds their 5x5 territory and tiles run out (the rules detail tile-to-player ratios), the game ends. Victory points are a breeze to calculate: multiply the number of connected identical landscapes by the crowns drawn on them. The player with the most points reigns victorious.
Bruno Cathala, the mastermind behind Kingdomino, wouldn’t be himself without extra game variants. This game offers four! For instance, one mode pits players in a duel using all tiles to build a 7x7 kingdom.
We recommend watching the video rules in the “Video” section and, if you’d like, diving deeper into the illustrated PDF rules in the “Files” section.
One Last Note
Perfect for family nights, this game is meticulously designed and stays balanced no matter the player count. Quick rounds and exquisitely detailed tiles keep even young kids engaged. Gallu the Rooster, from personal experience, guarantees it’s easy for kids as young as 6 to enjoy, though the author suggests 8.
