Will you play as the Fellowship of the Ring to protect the Free Peoples and destroy the One Ring? Or will you side with Sauron, hunting Frodo and Sam while sending your hordes to the gates of enemy cities? The fate of Middle-earth lies in your hands!
"The Lord of the Rings: Duel for Middle-earth" is a spiritual successor and reimagining of "7 Wonders: Duel", introducing a host of intriguing changes to the game. One player takes on the role of the Fellowship, while the other embodies Sauron.
Key Differences from "7 Wonders: Duel"
The core rules remain largely unchanged from "7 Wonders: Duel." You’ll still have three ages and the familiar pyramid card layout in each. Instant victories come in three flavors:
- Completing the Ring’s Journey.
- Gaining the support of six Middle-earth peoples.
- Conquering Middle-earth.
If none of these victory conditions are met by the end of the third age, the player controlling the most regions of Middle-earth wins.
However, as we hinted earlier, this is a reimagining of a legendary classic. Here’s what sets it apart:
Art
Vincent Dutrait’s card illustrations are breathtaking and leave no one indifferent. The war cards deserve special mention—each age features unique battle scenes, and when laid out in a row, they form a panoramic depiction of the clash between Middle-earth’s Free Peoples and Sauron’s dark forces.
Production
The concept and execution of the Ring’s Journey track, where Nazgûl pursue Frodo and Sam, feel fresh and impressive. Notably, the Nazgûl piece sits atop the track section with Frodo and Sam, so as they move, the Nazgûl automatically draw closer. In other words, the distance between them only shrinks.
The game also includes a high-quality organizer—ergonomic and pleasant to the touch.
War Track
The reworked war track, once abstract, is now a full-fledged map with cities where you can build fortresses and move warriors, adding depth and thematic richness. This will especially delight fans of J.R.R. Tolkien’s work.
Deep Strategy, Simple Rules
Compared to the classic version, sessions of "The Lord of the Rings: Duel for Middle-earth" are faster and more strategic. Tension runs high as you or your opponent are always one step from one of the three instant victories. Unlike "7 Wonders: Duel," games here more often end with an instant win.

We recommend watching the video rules in the “Video” section and, if desired, reviewing the detailed PDF rules in the “Files” section.
One Last Note
