“Cthulhu: Death May Die – Godzilla Vs Cthulhu” is an expansion for the cooperative action board game for 1–5 players based on the works of H. P. Lovecraft “Cthulhu: Death May Die – Fear of the Unknown” and “Cthulhu: Death May Die”. Godzilla is not an enemy — investigators cannot interact with him. Treat him as an uncontrolled, neutral, but extremely powerful force of nature.
Expansion Overview
At first Godzilla acts in the chaotic (uncontrolled) behavior phase. Each turn before the Mythos card you roll a die that determines his actions. He can roar, forcing investigators to lose Sanity, stomp and crush small monsters, leaving Suffering (ruin) tokens that hinder investigators’ movement, or use his atomic breath to incinerate a zone and deal wounds to all figures in it.
When the Ancient One appears, Godzilla switches to territorial behavior. A true Kaiju battle begins: investigators become witnesses to the epic confrontation between Godzilla and the Ancient One. Godzilla continues to act each turn, but now moves toward the Ancient One to clash with him. The Ancient One does not remain passive — in response to every action of Godzilla he strikes back (physically or mentally), affecting Godzilla’s Sanity.
Godzilla has no health pool. Instead he has a Suffering track: every time the Ancient One hits him, Godzilla becomes more agitated. When the Suffering track reaches the end, Godzilla gives up and retreats — and the players immediately lose. Therefore, when Godzilla starts fighting the Ancient One, the investigators are obliged to help him. If Godzilla retreats before all stages of the Ancient One are defeated, the team loses.
