"Hegemony" is a game that simulates societal processes and the interplay of four asymmetrical classes: the Working Class, the Middle Class, the Capitalist Class, and the State. It’s a complex and intricate game, yet entirely logical, making it approachable and comfortable to play. Everything is built on principles mirroring real-world societal dynamics (a simulation), driven by a card-based engine.
Extended Edition
The Ukrainian edition of "Hegemony" is an extended version that includes two expansions right out of the box: "Crisis & Control" and "Historical Events."
4 Asymmetrical Classes
- Working Class manages workers who earn money and spend it on basic needs: food, healthcare, education, and, if possible, entertainment. This player’s goal is to meet these needs as effectively as possible and improve their workers’ well-being.
- Middle Class oversees workers who can join various companies while also managing their own small businesses. The Middle Class must strike a perfect balance between production, sales, and resource consumption to meet their workers’ needs and enhance their prosperity.
- Capitalist Class controls companies where workers produce goods and services, which the Capitalists sell for profit. Their aim is to maximize wealth accumulation.
- State strives to boost its legitimacy by ensuring the needs and equality of all classes, while navigating diverse social crises.
About the Game
Each class has unique abilities, individual card decks, and distinct victory conditions. These traits and capabilities intersect with other classes, enabling constant interaction across the game board and throughout the session.
During your first game—especially the opening turns—you’re unlikely to grasp what’s happening or the consequences of your actions. Don’t worry, though; by mid-game, you’ll catch on, especially if you’ve thoroughly read the rules, and you’ll understand your class’s needs and the ripple effects of your choices.
As with many asymmetrical games, the rules are split into two parts: general rules and class-specific rules. The designers suggest playing your first game with two players. The game is structured so you can’t randomly pick classes with fewer than four players. With two players, you must play as the Working Class and Capitalists; a third adds the Middle Class, and a fourth includes the State. For fewer than four players, missing classes are replaced by an Automa. However, the "Crisis & Control" expansion, included with the base game, provides Automa decks that let you play any class regardless of player count!
"Crisis & Control" Expansion
New challenges await, with additional game modes that push your management skills to the limit! Crisis response cards and alternative issue cards add variety, while class-specific secret objective cards encourage fresh politico-economic strategies.
"Historical Events" Expansion
This includes 50 cards featuring pivotal events from the 18th to 21st centuries, infusing each session with a historical atmosphere!

We recommend watching the video rules in the “Video” section and, if desired, reviewing the detailed PDF rules in the “Files” section.
One Last Note
This is a deeply complex game, yet it leaves a pleasant impression even after your first play. It’s beautifully and stylishly designed, with high-quality components and printed meeples. Gallu the Rooster wants to highlight that each card boasts stunning artwork and a unique style per class, complemented by a sleek, ergonomic organizer in the box. "Hegemony: Lead Your Class to Victory" delivers unique experiences you’re unlikely to find in any other game. If you’re after an engaging economic and social simulator that offers surprising twists with every session, Gallu the Rooster wholeheartedly recommends it!
