Step into a world where dragons of all shapes, sizes, and colors soar through the skies, and take on the role of an amateur dragonologist to explore caverns and transform them into a sanctuary for these majestic creatures. However, remember that creating the perfect place may not be enough – you’ll also need to attract the dragons to make them stay for good!
The game is based on the core mechanics of "Wingspan" by Elizabeth Hargrave, but it is more complex, and every aspect has been reimagined around the theme of dragons!
In "Wyrmspan", you are building your own draconid sanctuary. You start with three open locations – one in each cave: the Crimson Cavern, the Golden Grotto, and the Amethyst Abyss. Throughout the game, you will uncover new locations, lure dragons into your sanctuary, activate powerful abilities, and win the favor of the Dragon Guild.
How does it work?
The game lasts for 4 rounds. In each round, players take turns clockwise. On your turn, you select one of the actions available on your sanctuary board (your personal player board), move your dragonologist there, pay the required cost, and perform the action.
The available actions include:
- Excavation, which allows you to play cards into caves.
- Luring, which lets you place dragons on the game board.
- Exploring the Crimson Cavern, which lets you activate certain abilities.
Different types of dragons that you can lure into your sanctuary have different resource requirements and preferred caves. They grant varying amounts of victory points and have unique effects. The key to victory is creating the best combinations from the available cards and using them at the right time.
Turns continue until players decide to pass. This usually happens when someone has spent all their coins or has no dragon cards left to play. When all players have passed, the round ends.
After the fourth round, players tally their points for dragon cards, activated abilities, eggs, resources, and other elements. The player with the most points wins.
We also recommend checking out the video rules in the "Video" section and, if you prefer, reviewing the illustrated rules in PDF format in the "Files" section.
And finally
Gallu the rooster is confident that the variety of elements makes each game of "Wyrmspan" incredibly unique and allows for many new strategies. Additionally, changes to the resource-gathering process, the addition of new cards, and the Dragon Guild mechanics provide added complexity, even for veterans of "Wingspan".
The game also offers special rules for a solo mode, where you compete against an AI opponent – Automa. The rulebook also includes the solo mode "Ascension".
