The board game Paris: La Cité de la Lumière is a fast-paced abstract duel about designing the streets of Paris. Players will place tiles on a shared game board, illuminate buildings to earn victory points, and hinder their opponent from doing the same.
Playing Tetris
The gameplay is divided into two phases:
- Placing cobblestone tiles or acquiring buildings.
- Placing buildings or performing actions.
In the first phase, players take turns choosing whether to place one of the available cobblestone tiles or add a new building to their reserve. Once all cobblestone tiles have been placed, the second phase begins. In this phase, players will again choose whether to place one of their buildings on the game board or to perform an action depicted on a selected postcard. When no more buildings can be placed, players total up their victory points.
Scoring
Points are calculated as follows: for illuminated buildings (the building’s size multiplied by the number of street lamps illuminating it), the largest group of buildings, and postcards featuring a stamp, participants add victory points. For unused buildings (those not placed on the game board), 3 victory points are subtracted for each. The player with the most victory points is declared the winner.
