Keep the Heroes Out: Guild Master’s Revenge is not a standalone game but an expansion to the stellar cooperative board game “Keep the Heroes Out!”. It adds three new modes to the base game, including an overlord mechanic (one vs. all), a card set, and—finally—twenty wooden hero meeples replacing cardboard tokens.
A Closer Look at the Expansion’s New Modes
It’s exactly what the base game was missing: a duel mode and a one-vs.-all mode. One player becomes the Guild Master, now commanding the heroes. The Guild Master starts with five Guild cards and decides which to play, with the number varying by wave and difficulty level. Heroes also gain an upgrade deck with items to boost their classes. Victory conditions remain unchanged from the base game.
The “Mindful Facilitator” mode is designed for playing with kids at a low difficulty level. The facilitator controls the Guild card sequence, balancing easy and challenging gameplay to keep children engaged.
The “Nightmare” mode ramps up cooperative play to a hellish difficulty, adding the chance for heroes to gain upgrade cards. Each time a scenario card is played, the weakest hero with the fewest upgrades claims it.
Unexpected “Safety Inspection”
“An unscheduled safety inspection is coming to our dungeon any day now! We’d better get ready!”
This modular card set can be mixed into any scenario. Blindly add new cards with special rules to the hero and scenario decks, depending on the difficulty level.
We recommend checking out the video rules in the “Video” section and, if desired, exploring the illustrated PDF rules in the “Files” section.
One Last Note
If you’re thrilled by “Keep the Heroes Out!,” Gallu the Rooster insists you grab this expansion—especially since it now supports up to five players, or even seven if you don’t mind downtime (waiting for your turn).
