Dixit Disney is a fresh take on the popular association-based board game Dixit. Unveiled to the world in 2023, it retains its renowned game designer, Jean-Louis Roubira. In this edition, the scoring board, voting tablets, and card illustrations are styled in the spirit of Disney and Pixar cartoons.
About the Board Game Dixit Disney Edition
Generations have grown up with Disney and Pixar cartoons. Better yet, these films have become shared memories for parents and kids, who eagerly rewatch both classic and new releases from these iconic studios. The publishers of the Dixit series (Libellud) hit the bullseye by uniting different generations around one table.
The game differs little from the classic version. The maximum player count is reduced to 6. A new rule allows the storyteller to describe their association not just with a word or phrase, but also with a hint tied to the cartoon depicted on the card—assuming all players know these films (and who doesn’t?). Oh, and instead of rabbits hopping across the board, your favorite characters take the leap. The wooden Mickey Mouse figure? A true work of art.
How to Play?
It’s a breeze to play! With simple rules (the rulebook spans just three pages) and vibrant artwork, the game has soared in popularity. Still, let’s break down the gameplay briefly.
To start, each player gets a colored cartoon character figure (for tracking points), a voting tablet, and the scoring board is set up. Everyone receives six cards, and the game begins. Each turn, one player is the “storyteller.” A turn has three phases:
- Crafting the Clue. The storyteller examines their cards, picks one (keeping it hidden), and shares an association (a word, phrase, or cartoon hint). Each player then selects a card from their hand that best matches the clue and passes it face-down to the storyteller, who shuffles all received cards (including their own).
- Solving the Clue. Everyone except the storyteller votes for the card they think was the original. Points are awarded based on the votes, and each player’s figure hops along the meadow.
- End of Turn. Used cards are discarded, players draw back up to six cards from the deck, and the player to the left of the storyteller becomes the next storyteller.
The game ends when one or more players reach 30 points on the scoring track. The player with the most points wins.
We recommend watching the video rules in the “Video” section and, if desired, exploring a detailed, illustrated PDF of the rules in the “Files” section.
In Conclusion
Though this edition is French-made, it’s completely language-independent, and the rules from the classic version will suffice. Gallu the Rooster assures you’ll face no issues during play or with learning the rules. Plus, Dixit Disney is fully compatible with all other series editions.
As for age, kids can easily play from 5 years old—not just 8 as the designer suggests—making this game suitable for all ages.
