A city stretching into infinity. Buildings scraping the sky. Oppressive fog blanketing everything. Megacorporations. Punk culture. Rusty tech everywhere. Hackers. This is Night City, where gangs and corporations wage a relentless battle for control.
About the Board Game "Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City"
This is a grand strategy game with miniatures, where gangs vie for dominance over the city. The game was co-designed by renowned game designer Eric M. Lang, the mastermind behind the exceptional "Blood Rage".
Players take on the roles of leaders of Night City’s numerous gangs. They’ll recruit new members, seize territories, fight each other, and attempt to defy corporations through various card-driven narrative scenarios. Your actions impact not only your game and your rivals but the city itself. Each gang has unique attributes and goals, ensuring a distinct experience for every player.
Gameplay Overview
The game is structured simply. On your turn, you choose and perform a couple of actions from a list:
- Activate one type of miniature.
- Build a base to spawn new miniatures from.
- Upgrade your deck by discarding an old card and adding a new, more powerful one.
Actions are quick: pick one, follow its steps, and pass the turn.
The core gameplay revolves around activating miniatures. When activated, you can move all miniatures of one type across the board and then perform a unique action tied to that type. There are three kinds:
- Solos (fighters) can attack opponents (usually to score points).
- Techies purchase new unique fighters or cards that yield victory points.
- Netrunners advance a hacking token along a special track, earning points and occasionally causing trouble for rivals.
Player interaction is key—you can attack each other. Combat is straightforward: each player plays a combat card, reveals them simultaneously, and the higher attack wins, potentially triggering a card’s special effect. Interestingly, some cards have a “gain 1 point if you lose the fight” trait, so even facing a stronger foe can pay off.
The board also features special locations where you can oust rivals. Each area tallies players’ miniatures; the one with the most can pass on their turn to claim resources for controlling it. Even without a majority, you can still snag a small reward when passing (passing is necessary to refresh available actions).
The game ends with the player who amasses the most "Street Cred" winning, or if a narrative epilogue condition is met.
