What could be more fun than sliding on ice instead of studying? Only sliding on ice after you’ve ditched class!
Flick Those Penguins!
In the board game "Ice Cool," you’ll play as a less-than-responsible but incredibly fun and nimble penguin who’d rather skip school and chase after fish!
To make your move, flick your penguin piece by pressing down on it, aiming it toward the desired area of the icy structure. Whether it’s the kitchen, gym, cafeteria, or lounge—it’s up to you! The key is to be the first to complete your game objective.
Where Does the Penguin Waddle?
The number of rounds in "Ice Cool" equals the number of players. Over the course of the game, each player takes a turn as the Hall Monitor, tasked with ensuring their penguin pals don’t sneak out of the classroom in pursuit of tasty fish. A student penguin caught by the Hall Monitor is dutifully sent back to the classroom, where the fish-chasing race began. The goal for the student penguins is to collect three delicious fish dangling in the most treacherous corridors—spots easily patrolled by the Hall Monitor.
A round ends when either one of the student penguins gathers all three fish or the Hall Monitor catches all the student penguins red-handed, confiscating their school passes. For each pass taken, the Hall Monitor earns a tasty reward fish from the stack at the end of the round (worth 1, 2, or 3 victory points).
Student penguins claim a victory point card the moment they “knock” a fish free from the icy corridor where it’s “hanging.”
Extra Move, or When the Fish Run Dry…
Cards in "Ice Cool" come in denominations of 1, 2, or 3 victory points. It’s frustrating when luck hands you nothing but ones, so the game includes a clever rule for tough times: you can discard two 1-point cards to take an extra move. Since a round ends instantly the moment a penguin snags (or, honestly, “swipes”) their final fish, discarding two ones often lets you grab a juicy fish while your opponents are left with no moves!
Once everyone has taken a turn as the Hall Monitor—after rounds equal to the number of players—participants in "Ice Cool" tally the victory points from their earned cards. The winner gets to treat their friends to some delicious fish!
