King Robert Baratheon is dead, and the lands of Westeros brace for battle.
A Game of Thrones: The Board Game (Second Edition)
From three to six players take on the roles of the great Houses of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, vying for control of the Iron Throne through diplomacy and military might. Based on the bestselling *A Song of Ice and Fire* series of fantasy novels by George R.R. Martin, *A Game of Thrones* offers a truly epic scope. Victory may not come through sheer military strength alone. Will you seize power by force, use cunning and flattery to claim the Throne, or rally the populace to your side? Through strategic planning, masterful diplomacy, and skillful use of your available cards, extend your influence over Westeros!
Gameplay
At the start of the game, each player receives an army consisting of infantry, knights, siege engines, and ships, along with a deck of House cards used as leaders in battles against rival Houses. The game consists of 10 rounds, and the winner is the player who controls the most lands with castles or strongholds.
Westeros Phase
Each round in the game is divided into three phases: the Westeros Phase, the Planning Phase, and the Action Phase. The Westeros Phase represents various events and daily activities across Westeros. There are three different Westeros decks, each tied to distinct global actions that can potentially affect all players.
Planning Phase
The Planning Phase could be considered the most critical: you secretly assign orders to all your units by placing one command token on each controlled area containing at least one unit (knight, infantry, ship, or siege engine). This part of the game places special emphasis on diplomacy and deduction—can you trust your ally? Will you betray them and send your forces against them? Players can make promises to one another (offering aid or a truce, for example), but these promises are never binding!
Action Phase
During the Action Phase, the assigned orders are revealed, and the battles begin! When armies clash, players secretly choose one of their House cards to add strength to the fight. Finally, Houses can consolidate their power in the areas they control, storing it for future use—such as repelling an attack by the Wildlings!
Dive into the incredible world of Westeros—a realm brimming with intrigue and ambition, all centered on one goal: the Iron Throne!
