The tea ceremony holds a central place in Japanese culture, embodying the core principles of hospitality, respect, and the Zen Buddhist philosophy. It is said that tea, brought to Japan from China in the 13th century, cured the ailments of Buddhist monks who drank it. Over time, the tea ceremony evolved: samurai found in it a haven of tranquility away from the chaos of the battlefield.
The more members of your clan occupy prestigious positions in the chashitsu (tea house), the greater influence you’ll gain at the court of Himeji Castle.
"Matcha" is a expansion for the tactical board game "The White Castle", adding not only new content and gameplay mechanics but also enhancing the possibilities of the base game.
Expansion Overview
The ability to craft dazzling combinations remains a hallmark of "The White Castle." But now, you have 12 turns instead of 9 to devise an effective strategy.
The Matcha expansion introduces a wealth of new content to the base game:
- A game board featuring the tea room and the Himeji principality;
- New clan members—geishas;
- A fourth bridge;
- Green dice and a new resource type—matcha whisk;
- Expanded personal player boards.
"The White Castle" is already renowned for its strategic depth, variety, and impressive combo chains. With new clan members, dice, resources, and cards from this expansion, the base game shines even brighter and richer, like the aroma of freshly brewed matcha on a cold winter day.
We recommend watching the video rules in the “Video” section and, if desired, reviewing the illustrated PDF rules in detail in the “Files” section.
